What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a superficial mechanical exfoliation technique. A sterile blade is gently guided across the skin to remove accumulated corneocytes (dead skin cells), surface debris, and vellus hair.

What is Oilplaning?
Oilplaning is a modified dermaplaning technique used when the skin barrier may be compromised, dry, or sensitive. A lightweight, non-comedogenic oil rich in linoleic acid is applied prior to exfoliation.
The oil layer:

Supports Barrier
Supports the acid mantle and epidermal barrier
Minimises Irritation
Minimises potential irritation for sensitive skin
Improves Comfort

Your practitioner will determine whether dermaplaning or oilplaning is most appropriate following clinical skin assessment.
Indications
Dermaplaning may be beneficial for:
- Dull or rough skin texture
- Superficial congestion or build-up of dead skin cells
- Uneven makeup application
- Desire for smoother, more radiant skin prior to events
Dermaplaning is a surface exfoliation treatment and does not treat active dermatological conditions.
Contraindications
Dermaplaning / Oilplaning is not suitable for skin with:
- Multiple raised moles or skin tags in the treatment area
- Active acne or inflamed lesions
- Rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis affecting the face
- Compromised or broken skin, open wounds, or recent sunburn
- Recent isotretinoin (Roaccutane) use within the past 6 months
Suitability is always determined during consultation.
Treatment Frequency
Skin cell turnover typically occurs every 4–5 weeks. Dermaplaning is therefore generally recommended at similar intervals to maintain smoothness and clarity.
Treatment may be performed sooner for specific occasions if clinically appropriate.
